The New York Mets and Johan Santana made history just moments ago, completing the first no-hitter in the team's history, a total of 8,020 games. Santana and the Mets defeated the Cardinals 8-0.

Mike Baxter saved the no-hit bid for Santana in the seventh inning, robbing Yadier Molina of extra bases on a catch in left field where he smashed into the wall. Santana had eight strikeouts and walked five on 134 pitches. He was scheduled to pitch no more than 115 pitches before the game.

There was a bit of controversy as well, as the umpire missed a clear fair ball hit down the third-base line by Carlos Beltran that would have ended the no-hit bid in the sixth inning.

Santana said it was his first no-hitter in his entire baseball career.
