Santonio Holmes Proves He's Not Worth The Money, Nor The 'C' On His Chest After Miami Benching

One of the biggest mistakes the Jets made this season with putting the "C" on Santonio Holmes' chest. The Jets wide receiver was anything but a captain or leader this season and the ultimate example of that came in the final moments of the Jets' loss to the Dolphins Sunday.

After getting into a heated argument with someone in the huddle, Holmes found himself on the bench sitting alone as the Jets were driving for what turned out to be a meaningless touchdown in a 19-17 loss.

Rex Ryan claimed he didn't know what happened with Holmes, saying he didn't know why his wide receiver was on the sideline on that final drive. Holmes said he was told by fellow wide receiver Patrick Turner that he was sent in to replace him, and didn't know who made the call or why it was made.

"There were some guys who were unhappy with Tone's demeanor," Jets running back LaDainian Tomlinson said. "It's tough for guys to follow a captain who kind of behaves in that manner."

Either way, Holmes showed by sitting alone on the bench as the Jets gave themselves a shot to win the game that he is not a team player. He was given a huge deal this offseason, 5 years for $45 million, so it would be nearly impossible to trade him or even release him, considering the money owed.

If I was Mike Tannenbaum I would be seeking a trade partner for Holmes because he's not only a locker room killer, but an on-field killer as well. Some of us knew that in the offseason, as we here wanted the Jets to sign Braylon Edwards instead of Holmes. The Pittsburgh Steelers knew that as well, as they traded Holmes to the Jets two years ago for basically nothing.

Great players don't come for free.

The Jets got caught looking at Holmes' potential rather than taking everything he brings to the team overall. None of it is good. The Jets, unfortunately, found that out first hand against Miami.
