More Trouble For UConn Basketball, Coombs-McDaniel Arrested

Here's yet another black eye for the UConn men's basketball program. Guard Jamal Coombs-McDaniel was arrested Thursday night and charged with marijuana possession. According to the police report, "During the course of the investigation, officers found Jamal Coombs-McDaniel and two other individuals in possession of 5.6 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a package of cigars used to smoke marijuana."

An NFL Draft With Zero Buzz? It's Going To Happen In Less Than Week

The NFL lockout hasn't hit home with me until today, when I realized there is exactly zero hype for the draft next week. This is typically one of the craziest times in football as prospects are being "mocked" from one team to the next, clubs are talking about possible trades and rumors are rampant. For an NFL fan it's the best days of the offseason and the league capitalizes on that in a big way, especially with the draft's first round being broadcast in prime time again this year.

Manny Ramirez Retires From MLB

Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Manny Ramirez has decided to retire. There is more to the story than simply the former Red Sox star calling it quits, however. Here is the statement made by Major League Baseball.

Terrible End To A Terrible Final Four

If you didn't make it through the entire national championship game last night and the hoopla that followed you may have missed this gem from UConn coach Jim Calhoun after his team and the Butler Bulldogs embarrassed themselves in a game more suited for a high school gym rather than the ultimate stage in college basketball.

"I took full responsibility for secondary offenses that took place in my program," Calhoun said after his team "won" the national title.

Worst Final Four Ever Could Make Strong Case For College Football's BCS

The Final Four will tip off in just hours but the anticipation that typically surrounds such a huge sports moment just isn't there this year. With a national championship being awarded to either Butler, Virginia Commonwealth, Kentucky or Connecticut, it's difficult to get amped up to see any one of those teams winning the title.

None of the four teams truly deserve to even play for a championship, let alone win one, but here we are. For the first time that I can remember in my time watching and following the NCAA Tournament, I can't make a case for any of the teams in the field deserving of a national championship. Now, I fully understand the tournament is all about underdogs, and I love the upset even more than the typical fan, but this is a little out of hand. Without going into the merits, or demerits, of each team's championship resume, the simple question of "would any of these four teams be in the discussion of winning a national championship before the tournament began" can only be answered with "no."
