UConn Stunner: Paul Pasqualoni Hired As New Head Football Coach

Connecticut has hired former Syracuse coach Paul Pasqualoni as its head football coach, not Mark Whipple as previously reported. "We are very proud to welcome Paul Pasqualoni to the UConn family and also bring him back home to his native Connecticut," University of Connecticut Director of Athletics Jeffrey Hathaway said. "Paul brings an outstanding coaching background to UConn on the collegiate, professional and high school level. He also is a man of strong character and integrity and we look forward to him developing our football student-athletes in the classroom, on the field and as part of the community."

Pasqualoni, the former long-time Syracuse head coach, is a native of Cheshire. He coached defense in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys since 2005. The new UConn head man coached 14 years at Syracuse and is the second winningest coach in its history, with 107 victories.

"He has everything that a college program would want from a leadership perspective," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said about his former staff member. "He knows the game, and he is very effective at coaching and teaching every aspect of the game. We wish nothing but the best for Coach P. and his family. I know our players and his fellow coaches here in Dallas will miss him very much."
