Michigan Fires Football Coach Rich Rodriguez ... Well, Maybe

Detroit television station Fox 2 and the Detroit Free Press are both reporting that Michigan has fired coach Rich Rodriguez. The Associated Press, however, reports that no decision has been made and Rodriguez will meet with Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon again Wednesday.

Here's Michigan's statement on the situation: "This is media speculation at this point. The definitive voice on this matter is [athletic director] Dave Brandon and he has not and will not speak publicly until a final decision has been made."

Michigan would have to pay Rodriguez $2.5 million to buy out the final three years of his contract. Rodriguez completed his third year with the Wolverines on January 1 with a historically bad loss in the Gator Bowl. The 38-point loss to Mississippi State was the worst in school bowl history. The 52 points allowed was also the worst in school bowl history. Rodriguez was 15-22 overall with Michigan.
